I evolved a spring semester academic calendar through three phases, each loosening the restrictions of the last. The series began with only typography and one color, introduced a second color and limited graphics, then culminated in a full design for a classmate acting as a mock client.
With so little to work with, hierarchy had to carry usability on its own, turning the early phases into exercises in negative space and composition. Each added color had to earn its place through contrast and legibility. The final brief asked for a sense of spring, classy yet bold serif type, and room for important dates. I proposed two layouts and refined one through client and peer feedback, resisting the urge to overcomplicate and letting the fundamentals do the work.
PORTFOLIO
The series closed with a finished calendar that met the client's brief, and left me with a much sharper sense of how far strong fundamentals can carry a design.
