BMW CCA

The BMW Car Club of America runs a club racing program that includes the Spec E36 series, where drivers compete in matched E36 3 Series cars. I designed merchandise for the series under a brief that called for an anime theme, a layout reminiscent of manga panels, and the Japanese kanji for speed.

Anime and car culture share a significant overlap in fans, making the theme a natural way to reach the racers and enthusiasts the series draws. To bring in the manga panels, I split the composition with a diagonal break, placing the driver in the cockpit above the car so the shirt captures both the person behind the wheel and the machine itself. Bold outlines and flat color keep the illustration true to the anime style, while the red kanji, matched to the driver's gloves, adds a sharp accent that ties the two halves together.
